From your first assessment through to ongoing care, here's exactly what to expect — plus everything included in your treatment plan, and what it costs.
From your first assessment to ongoing care, here's exactly what to expect at every step of starting OrthoK with us.
A comprehensive eye test with our optometrist, including corneal topography mapping to assess your eye shape and suitability, plus a full eye health evaluation.
Note: If you currently wear daytime contact lenses, we recommend not wearing them on the day of your appointment — and ideally the day before as well — so we can obtain the most accurate eye shape (corneal topography) data possible.
We talk through OrthoK for your individual case — your prescription, eye shape and treatment goals — with an honest discussion of the benefits and risks involved.
If you decide to proceed, your optometrist personally designs and customises your OrthoK lenses — drawing on experience designing thousands of lenses for our patients. Lenses typically arrive within around 2 weeks.
We check how your custom lenses fit your eyes, then a member of our team patiently guides you through insertion, removal and lens care — with plenty of hands-on practice.
You start wearing your OrthoK lenses that very evening.
Your first review happens within just a few days of starting treatment, to check how things are settling in.
Further reviews follow at 2 weeks, then 1, 3, 6 and 9 months — more complex cases may need more frequent visits along the way.
Once established, reviews continue roughly every 6 months, to keep your eye health and treatment results on track.
Pricing as of January 2026, subject to change. Fees depend on the complexity of your prescription and eye shape — your practitioner will confirm which OrthoK system suits you at your initial assessment.
Lens replacement is recommended every 12–18 months for optimum eye health, fit and vision. We'll advise when replacement is needed based on clinical assessment.
After your first year of treatment, regular reviews are required — generally every 6 months, unless more frequent visits are needed. Medicare doesn't cover all required tests, so a technology fee applies per visit, covering biometry (to track eye length and myopia progression) and corneal topography (to monitor eye shape). For patients who have not attended regular reviews, additional consultation fees are payable to cover extra tests that may be required due to gaps in their treatment history.
You may be able to claim a rebate for part of your Treatment Plan fees and replacement lenses through your health fund's optical benefits — the amount depends on your level of cover. Health insurance doesn't cover ongoing consultation fees, cleaning solutions or other consumables.
A lens breakage warranty covers one lens per eye within the first 6 months (180 days) of your original lens order, for early mishaps (photographic evidence required for lab approval).
A non-refundable deposit of $600 is required to design and order your custom-made lenses. The balance is usually settled in full at your lens delivery appointment.
Results can vary between individuals. If treatment is unsuccessful within the first 6 months and you wish to discontinue, 50% of the treatment plan fee can be refunded as credit for other optical items in-clinic.
We'll confirm your suitability and the right OrthoK system for your eyes.
